Visits by the Sovereign to Jindřichův Hradec in the 17th and 18th Centuries

In the post-White Mountain period, and even more after Thirty Years’ War, Czech kings of Habsburg family ruled mainly from Vienna, which became their permanent predominant city residence reign Leopold I at latest. Gradually, frequency visits to Bohemian lands diminished. Chief among these were occasional journeys that Habsburgs undertook, whose route usually copied imperial highways. One most important was running through JindřichĹŻv Hradec (Neuhaus), a residential populous town belonging in period under review powerful wealthy families Slavata later ČernĂ­n. The present study discusses by sovereign several perspectives: terms ceremonial entry into city, dining, festivities, communications between nobility, regional governors, court authorities, or church institutions, and, last but not least, technical point view, as each visit associated with an enormous logistical organizational burden tested capacities entire apparatus nobility significantly affected everyday functioning organism.
